2009 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
"...The Bowens' latest release shows the particularly aromatic fruit of the vintage – in this instance, a pure mulberry-like varietal fragrance meshing perfectly with a sweet cedary note of oak. This sweet, cedary fruit-oak combination carries through to the rich, elegantly structured palate."
****½, Chris Shanahan, Canberra Times, 31st August, 2011

"…There's good depth of fruit here. And quite a deal of grunty tannin. I'd be willing to bet that this release will age over a decade or more – cork permitting. It tastes of blackcurrant and eucalypt, cedary/toasty oak and sweet spices. It's grainy and muscular and (for a Coonawarra cabernet) big, but it's also structured and punchy through the finish. It is too young to drink now. But in four or five year's time it should be quite lovely. 93+ points"

"... A great drink, deeply dark with herbal, concentrated sweetly mulberry/blackcurrant characters. Excellent judgement here well-ripened tannins, judicious oak and structure." 2008 - 92 points, 2009 - 92 points

"We're pleased to see the Bowen cabernet right back on song. Here we have Coonawarra beautifully expressed, and the intensity of fruit, acidity and fine, firm tannins ensure longevity." Highly Recommended – GOLD

 2009 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Shiraz
"There's been some criticism of high alcohol in Australian red wines. It's a complex subject, as even comparatively low-alcohol wines can appear hot and alcoholic, while in others like this beautiful Bowen Estate shiraz, high alcohol (15 per cent) simply disappears without trace into the sweet, ripe, supple fruit. It might be big, but it's still graceful and elegant – a great joy to drink now and probably for a decade or more into the future. It seems juicier and fruitier than the previous vintage….at the bigger end of the current Coonawarra shiraz spectrum"
Chris Shanahan, Sunday Canberra Times, August 2011

"This is a big rather high-alcohol for Coonawarra, but it's a very good wine. Spicy walnut aromas and a hint of Sandalwood. Medium-full bodied and fleshy with ample powdery tannins, and a peppery sea-brine overtone." 92 points ****

A 2011 Review by Andrew Caillard MW

Bowen Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Langton's Classification: Distinguished

"Second generation winemaker Emma Bowen is making gorgeously scented, expressive and elegantly structured wine with superb minerality and weight. The wines can be lost in the ruck of more extracted and concentrated styles, but this wine is one of Coonawarra's top wines. It deserves a higher placing in Langton's Classification. ..
